Amazon’s 60 days start at deactivation.
Amazon holds seller money in three different ways, and each has its own rules. A delivery-date reserve holds each order until a week after delivery. An account level reserve covers claims and chargebacks. A deactivation can lead Amazon to withhold the whole balance. Only the last has a fixed number in Amazon’s policy: 60 days before you can appeal for the funds.
Which hold is yours?
- Deferred transactions (delivery date, “DD+7”). Each order’s funds are reserved until it is delivered plus a reserve period, 7 days as standard. Amazon uses the carrier’s delivery date when you use an integrated carrier, otherwise the latest estimated delivery date. It may extend the period after assessing your risk and performance. Shown as Deferred transactions on the Payments dashboard.1
- Account level reserve. On an active account: open A-to-z Guarantee claims (held until each is resolved; Amazon says some take up to 14 days or longer), chargebacks in the last 90 days, performance below Amazon’s benchmarks, an account under review, or tax withholding. Shown in the Account level reserve section of the Statement View.2
- Withheld funds after deactivation. If Amazon deactivates your account and decides your actions may create risks for Amazon or others, it may withhold any funds in the account to cover what you owe.3
The Business Solutions Agreement also lets Amazon set a reserve based on its assessment of risk and change its amount at its discretion, and defer your remittance by up to 14 days when you add or change bank details.4
After a deactivation
… you can separately appeal to seek any withheld funds by contacting [email protected] at any point after 60 days from the date when your account was deactivated.
- Now
Appeal the deactivation
Follow the instructions in the deactivation notice or in Seller Central. If Amazon reinstates the account, funds are released and paid on your normal disbursement schedule.3
- Now
Keep the ledger
Download your payments reports while you can and note every amount Amazon says it has offset: refunds, A-to-z claims, removal costs, fees. The evidence pack reads a payments CSV.
- Day 60
Appeal for the withheld funds
From 60 days after the deactivation date, email [email protected] (Europe: [email protected]).35 Amazon may ask for documents about your identity, financial instruments or supply chain, and may check them with third parties or government agencies.3 The hold calculator puts day 60 in your calendar.
- After
Ask for the offsets in writing
Amazon releases what is left after offsets. If the amount does not match your ledger, the deductions letter asks for an itemised breakdown.
What Amazon can keep
The Funds Disbursement Eligibility Policy says that if Amazon finds deceptive, fraudulent, harmful or illegal activity, abuse of its systems or repeated policy violations, or cannot confirm your identity, it may permanently withhold payments. Its examples: falsifying your identity or activity, trying to get around Amazon’s systems, and breaking the anti-counterfeiting policy. The Business Solutions Agreement says Amazon will offer an avenue to appeal a withholding decision, and that completing the appeal is required to be eligible for further disbursements.
Before you go to an ombudsman, check which Amazon company your agreement names. The European policy refers to the Amazon Services Europe Business Solutions Agreement.5
